Intercomparison between different primary solar cell calibration methods

Abstract:

In the field of photovoltaic performance measurements the knowledge of the short circuit current of reference devices under standardized conditions (ISTC) is vital. For the primary calibration of reference solar cells, two different measurement methods are known: On the one hand integral methods using broadband radiant sources like natural or simulated sunlight is applied, on the other hand spectrally resolved methods where quasi-monochromatic radiation is used.  During a research stay at the European Solar Test Installation (ESTI), Joint Research Centre (JRC) in April and Mai 2015, a comprehensive comparison of primary solar cell calibration was performed by a RMG-Researcher. Therefore, the direct sunlight method was used to calibrate a reference solar cell against the World Radiometric Reference (WRR) with cavity pyrheliometers. For comparison both methods of measurement the differential spectral responsivity method (DSR) was used for calibrating the reference solar cell at PTB. Finally the results of the measurement campaign and their corresponding uncertainty budgets are reported. Further results will be reported soon.
